Strategic Learning
In this type of instruction, students are taught specific meta-cognitive strategies based on their individual strengths and challenges. Homework assignments and projects from school are used to help students develop learning strategies in order to assist them in learning more effectively and efficiently. By using students’ academic curricula as a scaffold for teaching these strategies, students are able to improve their understanding of the subject matter while simultaneously improving their capacity to learn. The intent is to provide awareness of systematic procedures for approaching the learning task, and to empower students by emphasizing the process of learning.
Format
Students attend regularly scheduled sessions where they work one-on-one with their Educational Coach. A typical student attends two to three sessions per week, during after-school hours or on Saturdays.
